Falls & Granite, Tresaith, Ceredigion

The following images are from my latest project "beached wales". The beauty for me is in the exquisite detail of what are generally extracts from the larger landscape. Each extract conveys the emotion of "beig there" - the sights, the smells and the textures. I hope you enjoy them.

Rockpool, Poppit Sands, Pembrokeshire

Poppit Sands, at the mouth of the River Teifi is a beautifully unspoilt beach with views of Cardigan Island off the coast. Being along the trail of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path it is not to be missed.

Tresaith Falls, Tresaith, Ceredigion

Tresaith Falls can be accessed at low tide from Tresaith beach by walking around the rocks to the north. The rate of flow depends upon preceding rain fall and it can be quite thunderous. The sand is golden and smooth and there are plenty of rockpools to explore.

Mussel Grafiti, Tresaith, Ceredigion

The water in Cardigan Bay is clear and clean and as such supports a rich diversity of marine life. There are thriving colonies of mussels and other crustaceans and these shown here had managed to organise themselves into an interesting arrangement.

Lower Falls, Tresaith, Ceredigion

I have photographed lower falls many times and it is constantly changing. From the pattern of the water to the arrangement of boulders at the foot of the falls - all change from day to day and storm to storm.

Lower Falls, Tresaith, Ceredigion

This is a view of the falls from a more southerly aspect. The domed rock in the foreground is one of the few that have survived successive storms remaining in the same position.

Sand Dunes, Poppit Sands, Pembrokeshire

After a very strong storm and wind ripples in the sand can be quite pronounced and worthy of a photograph. Some days I have visited this beach the wind has been so strong that it has swirled the sand beneath my feet making it look and feel as if I am walking on air.

Ceibwr Bay, Pembrokeshire

On many days in summer the water here is crystal clear and it is not unusual to spot seals bobbing in the swell. The beach is quite unusual for the area by being pebbly.

Rose & Ivy, St. Dogmaels, Pembrokeshire

Not strictly a coastal image although I did take about 1.5 miles from the beach, I have included it in this collection because it is a personal favourite.

Cenarth Falls, Pembrokeshire

After very heavy rainfall almost all of the rocks are covered in white water. This was taken in early spring.

Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber, Pembrokeshire

There are a number of these burial chambers around Pembrokeshire but this is one of the largest. They are all much of the same design.

Cenarth Falls, Pembrokeshire

Many of my favourite images are the details of larger scenes. For me they more successfully help to recreate the emotion and feeling of a place.

Penbryn stream, Ceredigion

In the corner of the National Trust car park at Penbryn are a set of steep terraced steps which lead you down to the stream. Further up stream is a large waterfall but a bridge from the steps takes you across the stream and you can climb from there up more steps and follow the trail through the woods to the beach about a mile or so down stream. It is a fairly short but very pretty walk.

Llangrannog Beach, Ceredigion

This rock has been photographed, sketched and painted many times. At low tide it is possible to walk around the rock and further down the beach where there are a number of large caves.

Penbryn stream, Ceredigion

This stream joins Penbryn stream. I haven't explored this any further up because it is such difficult terrain.
